| Post subject: | can not get into my trunk 74 dart/swinger |
i have a 74 dart/swinger. Today I grabbed something out of the trunk. Closed it. Put the key in and no resistance. It had worked fine up until this point. I can turn it all the way and nothing happens. So I can not get into my trunk. Anyone had this problem. Any tricks to get into the trunk with out taking out the key cylinder? The key moves to the right about 15 degrees with no resistance what so ever. 74 Dart/Swinger please help. |

Try pushing down or pulling up on the trunk lid when using the key. Sometimes the does the trick....... |

yeah i tried that. got a friend to sit on it right near the latch and bounce up and down while trying the key. That did not work. The trunk has new weather striping and you have to shut it hard. you can turn the key the full range of motion with no resistance. not sure if their should be no resistance if the latch is not engaged |

With that seat out, you'll get it, armed with a flashlight and a flat head screwdriver. This is a great time to install an electronic latch (and maybe a remote control for it!) |

If you want an electric trunk lock on the cheap, later M and J bodies would be your best place to look. Installs right in place of your manual trunk lock and can be opened with either your key or a momentary switch inside the car. |

how would i remove my back seat and install a normal lock or even better a electronic lock. that idea makes me drool. cause my trunk key is missing the seller lost it so no matter what i am pulling that back seat. what models would i be looking for that has an electrical lock so i can ask my local parts store. mmmm electrical lock w/ switch UNF! cause i would remove the "fasten seat belts" light and install a toggle switch or a push button switch in it's place for the remolt. this would be very handy when i pick up my wife from the supermarket w/ grocerys or picking up mates from the liquor store or band practice. |
