Post subject:  Heres a quick question on which motor to build.

I have an '81 D150 with, I assume, the original motor.
I've found an inexpensive '67 barracuda motor.
I kind of want to keep the original truck motor untouched, but want to hop up the truck.
I'm debating getting the 'Cuda motor to build up and play with, and just rebuild the '81 motor to stock.
I believe the 'Cuda motor has the better crank, but the truck has a better head.
A very good friend, and former racer, has experience with head work so I can get all head work done cheaply.
What do all you experts think?

As of now, the plan is; 2" drop spindles, "flip" the rear, electric fan, paint to GTX purple, dual exhaust (which size works best?) in front of rear tires, build the motor (advice desired and accepted), but I'm thinking stud kit, good pistons (which ones, what compression?) cam, bigger valves, oiling upgrades,.....
I want to drive this truck all summer, and occasionally drag it, so it needs to be reliable, but mostly FUN!!
Thanks guys, I'll post pics as I go.

The main drawback to the '67 motor is the small register on the crank. If you're truck is a stick you just need the early flywheel. If it's an auto you would need to get a late converter with an early pilot built.

Me? I'd just do the original motor. There is not enough difference between the cast and forged cranks to even worry about, especially if it's not a high end boosted motor. :D
