Post subject:  Slight Stumble/Hesitation when stepping on gas

1979 D-100 stock 225/6
I installed new Standard cap and rotor,UR4 NGK spark plugs, and Borg- Warner plug wires. It fires right up and idles normally. Could the stumble be elimated with a new accelerator pump in my 1 bbl. Holley carb.? Thoughts anybody? THANKS !!

Well, that or a carb cleanup and rebuild, or a vacuum leak fixed, or vacuum hoses rerouted correctly, or a dirty PCV valve replaced, or the timing and idle mixture adjusted...how long since all of these were looked at?

Thanks Dan! I recently cleaned the carb. with Gumout spray cleaner and Seafoam. It's got a new PCV valve, and does not seem to have any vacuum leaks. That narrows it down to timing and/or a carb. kit. Correct?

Yep. Check your vacuum advance to make sure it (or its hose) hasn't got an air leak, and then focus in on that accelerator pump. Usually by the time it's time to put in a new pump, it's time for a complete carb kit.

Don't get distracted by this main thread, but I wanted to know also about this question:

It wasn't the ones you wanted to check, the little shudder/strumble/tiny bog on standing/low speed take off and this happens ONLY during when engine is not quite hot (first 1 mile or so). Not when cold or hot.

BTW and that with too rich running but not so much that smoke black but can smell it in the exhaust floating around.

Cheers, Wizard
