Well, the subject line says it all. What is that little hole in the base section of the carb for? This is the BBS off my 66 Val. I rebuilt it this weekend. Runs pretty nice so far. Still have some tweaking to do. But I am stumped on this hole. It goes right throug to the bore of the carb. Werid. If they were going to let air into the motor that way, why wouldn't it be filtered air? Thanks!

There is a vacumm line fitting on the other side of the base. This hole looks too small to have a nipple in it. But then I could be dead wrong. I sure can't think of another reason for it to be there! Chris |

This question came-up years ago in a SSCA "Slant 6 News" magazine... Tech advisor Bob Stepp said that the hole was a "secrete passageway to China"... DD |

The small hole in the aluminum throttle body helps smooth the transition from idle to power circuit, and assists with calibration of the vacuum advance signal. The bigger hole in the potmetal main body casting is where the vacuum nipple for the choke pull-off should be. It appears to be missing from this carburetor. |

Dan, I had pulled the nipple out of the upper hole during the rebuild. You are correct and it has since been re-installed in the upper hole. The bigger hole in the potmetal main body casting is where the vacuum nipple for the choke pull-off should be. It appears to be missing from this carburetor. C |
