How about you post what you have now, what 5 speed your are considering and how much of the work you'll be doing yourself? |

I have been considering the same items for my car. The Keisler 5 speed unit is about 3200 dollars for the parts. I spoke with Keith Long on Slantzilla's recommendation and we discussed a 904 automatic with a Gear Vendors overdrive. Keith is really a nice guy to talk with. That set up was a bit more pricey (about 900 more) in total. All installation work was/is to be done by me. Jeff |

Just so you know.....there are way cheaper ways to get a 5 speed than Keisler. It is easily done for less than a grand. |

I bought all my clutch parts(flywheel, good clutch, pressure plate, bellhousing, clutch pedals, all springs and bushings, z-bar, etc.) for 200 bucks and am buying a 4 speed for another 200. so there it is all the major parts for 400 bucks.a 4 speed tunnel is another 200 and a shifter is about 150-250 depending what kind you want to use(I think you can use any b or e body one in an abody if you really want to. In total it will cost me about a grand for everything. btw the keisler stuff is apparently really clunky and doesn't shift well at speed. |

Just to give you a more indepth view of my tranny swap heres what the prices are looking like for me. Now this is my build you could probably go cheaper with factory pieces. Mcleod 225 custom flywheel: 324.69 Mcleod pressure plate(from a 4.0L ford flywheel drilled out for this pressure plate, for 10" clutch): 188.69 Mcleod 10" disc: 187.39 Mcleod throwout bearing: 71.39 Brewers Performance shifter linkage with all hardware: 379 The rest of the nessecary clutch parts I needed I bought for 200 bucks as previously stated. The tranny tunnel I'm buying costs about 280 but it's closest to me and I'll save the extra money over the one from brewers in shipping(brewers is 199) so the total for me is: 1831.16 plus shipping etc. |

I called "Keisler" not too long ago, and for a slant six, the guy I talked to said that the Keisler 5-speed would handle WAY more horsepower than a slant six would be able to dish out. So unless your'e rich, he recommended a 5-speed out of a '88 through '94 Mustang. I have a 4-speed in my garage that I bought at a junktard which will go into my Volare, but I think it needs to be rebuilt, or at least looked at by a trans shop. |

check out http://www.classicmopar5speed.com/ they don't have a a-body kit yet but are in the process of building a kit for it. i have seen every part in the b-body kit and the quality is exceptional. everything is included in the kit that you will need. clutch, flywheel, converted speedo cable that plugs right in, shifter, driveshaft, shift tunnel, cross member and all the hardware you're going to need. the bell housing they supply is a new one that they had cast specifically for the application. i am actually helping them create the a-body kit by letting them use my car. so they will have an option for a slant. have patience and there will be another option out there soon. zedpapa |

Any idea of an ETA for when the kit will be available? I'd love to get a GV unit and lockup 904, but if I can get a 5-spd that's an all-inclusive bolt on kit, I'd jump on it.

Don't shoot me because this is going behind a 318 Magnum instead of a slant in my Volare but with a very similar BH adaptor to what Dion has, it could be done to a /6 as well, for way cheaper than Keisler; $125 via Ebay for the AX 15,+the trip to Milwaukee to get it (~250 mile round trip) (these trannys commonly sell for $350-400 at your local junkyard) Included bellhousing $22 shipped for a new slave cyl for the AX 15/Dakota (Ebay again) $60 delivered for 2, yes 2, 1992+ 318 Magnum flywheels ( the Magnum Fw has the notches that the factory crank sensor triggers from) $45, Ram Racing brand clutch kit, 1 step over stock, yes it is brand new; not even reman! (again Ebay) I found both flywheels for $20 ea on that car part junkyard search site that SSDan is always talking about. Considering that others from that same search wanted from $75 to $200+ for the same FW, excl. shipping, for that money I figured I'd better get em both while the gettin was good; pd $35 to have one resurfaced, put the other one in the shed. Now I am looking for 96-older Dakota clutch master and fluid line, and the throwout bearing, and i gotta get a driveshaft once I get the car back from the bodyman, mock it up and measure. A far cry from Keisler's price for a 5 speed in my car! (and if there's a Mopar RWD least likely for a direct fit kit, my F body is probably 1st in line for that prize |
