| Post subject: | Carb question again |
Time to go through the carb again. I have 2 rebuildable cores. I didn't realize that the one I've been running on the truck for the last year or so is the larger bore version of the BBD for the 318. Do I rebuild this one, or go back to the one made for the super six with the smaller venturi bores? The truck has been running ok, but not great, and as long as I've got to rebuild the carb-I want to do the best version. BTW-the online Carter BBD manual that I got online here was the best and most detailed I've ever seen. Thanks guys-Mike |

The 318 carbs can be made to work on the slant-6, but it's usually easier to make the slant-6 ones work right. |

I'm running a 318 carb on my 170 and I like it. That was the first one I found that didn't require a lot of work to rebuild, and it's easy to adjust. |

Did you lose any mileage or gain any performance? Mine seems to be running overly rich, and I couldn't lean it out. I'm wondering if the larger venturi bore with what I'm assuming are larger main jets are the reason for this? It runs okay, but not great. |

I think your running difficulties are down to the condition of the particular carb, not the differences between the 318 and 225 versions of the carb. |

Correct me, isn't the 318 the same size as the 225 carb? I have seen the 383 ones are 1 1/2" bore. They don't look anything like the 1 1/4 BBD's. |

The throttle plates and bore are the same size (1 7/16) but the venturi on the super six version is smaller (1 3/16?). You can see the difference looking up or down the bore of the carb with the throttle plates opened. I'm assuming that the jets are also a smaller size too. Mike |

Well that is interesting! I didn't know that! Nice to know that.

Rug, have you downloaded and read the BBD manual I posted? See here |
