I have a 72 demon with wrinkled fenders (from the bumper smashing back into them) I just bought a 72 dart sport 4door. The fenders look identical, except for the badges, and of course the sport's fenders are pristine.

I haven't really investigated yet, but I know I have to remove some stuff- the splash pan, bumper, headlights, turn signal wires, corner braces underneath, maybe the grille? I also know there is a line of bolts (screws?) inside the hood line on each side.

My question is this: are there any surprises or hidden or tricky clips or blind screws or spot welds that will ruin my day? I would like to put the straight fenders on in a day, and worry about changing the badges later.

I know there is one bolt, actually a nut on the underside of the fender at the top rear. You can see it from the door jam area. I've never tried to reach it, but it looks like it might be easiest to get at by unbolting the door from it's hinges. There are also a couple bolts at the lower edge of the fender, behind the wheelwell. Seems like a few bolts behind the headlights too. Basicly 1/2 the car needs to come apart....LOL !!! Though, I'm not an expert. Good news is, you shouldn't have to remove the hood.

No spotwelds its all bolts. I don't recall having to remove my doors to swap fenders but I believe the grill & valence removal was necessary. Also I believe theres a bolt *in* the fenderwell, just on the backside of the tire by lip.

There is a filler panel behind the tire that keeps road gunk out of the door hinges. It is held in place by half a dozen or so screws. You may need to remove the two bottom bolts that attach the fender to the cowl to pull the shield out. After that, you can look up to the upper hinge area and there is a stud or bolt that adjusts the height of the fender. Remove the nut/bolt and make note of any shims that may be up there. Most times those same shims will be what you need to align the other fender.
