first great site - new slanter here - actually had a hand me down 71 gold duster in the late 70s but didnt really do much wrenching other than maintainence - now have a 66 a100 225 with 727 auto currently stock with points and 1920 holley i believe - while i will concentrate on basic maintainence first , the first upgrade i would like to do is electronic ignition - my first plan was to buy a nos mopar system - have seen some examples for around $150 - okay but the hei module with the mopar electronic dist sounds like a good idea - so those that have done so did you use a used (junkyard or other) distributor and not have a problem - or is that a crapshoot, possible bad wear or? - i dont know if i like the idea of a rebuilt dist either - what exactly are they rebuilding? - with the help of the site i did manage a valve lash adjust - when the van came to me had an air compressor sound in the exhaust note - found almost no compression in one cylinder - found exhaust lash too tite - adjust done hot running - if i can do it you can for any other newbies - thank you - oo3 |

As far as advance curve is concerned your are most often better off with a later distributor from a Super Six 2bbl engine. Make sure the distributor has a vacuum advance. Distributors without the vacuum advance are also without a mechanical advance mechanism and were used on cars or trucks with electronic spark control. I have had quite good luck with used distributors since there is next to no wear with an electronic slant distributor. Personally I like the HEI ignition coil and bracket used on LT1 engines. By removing the LT1 module and redrilling the holes on the heat sink a 4-pin HEI module can be easily mounted.

thanks for info - will start looking for some parts - so you car slanters are mounting module/heatsink ( or module coil heatsink as in pic) on inner fenderwell ?- what would a good location be for a100 vans be ?- i dont really want to mount on inner doghouse as anytime i need to address distributor/sparkplug etc issues on that side of engine would remove side doghouse panel - oo3 |
