A friend of a friend hooked the daughter up with a 225 intake & exhaust combo (her 1961 Savoy's exhaust is cracked) but this intake is aluminum (I think) and is marked "Do not overtighten manifold nuts to 10 ft lbs maximum".

The part came out of the trunk of a '66 Dart.....wre Darts using aluminum intakes forty years ago?

The first year for slant-6s (1960), they all had aluminum intakes. But from '61-'75 and '77-'79, they were all iron. The one you have there (w/the torque warning, and an EGR valve you won't be using on your daughter's '61) is one of several aluminum intake manifolds used in 1976, then in 1980-87. Some of these designs are problem-prone. You may want to post a pic or two so we can clearly identify which you've got and tell you where to look for potential trouble spots.

If you don't care, you can use the original '61 intake with the "new" exhaust. It is very much worth your while to get the good gaskets for the manifolds-to-head and intake-to-exhaust junctions.

Dan, thanks (yet again :D )! My digi camera is dead but I found what I believe to be a casting date on the exhaust (84).

Are these things prone to warping?

I appreciate the tip on the exhaust gaskets - are they sold as a set or individually?

Might be.

The slant-6 manifolds can warp, yes. You'll want to use a straightedge to check for flatness of particularly the exhaust manifold mounting surfaces...check for front-to-back and up-to-down warp.

As a set, which is just as well. The set contains the only reliable intake-to-exhaust gasket that actually seals.
