Ive just bought a 1973 dodge dart swinger with a slant six but somethings wrong with it thought maybe some one could help me out. im gonna try to explain this as well as i can, but i need help. Its starts up ok but the car dies and stalls out when you try to put it into gear or if your not on the gas and the whole car shakes like its gasping for gas or air? i dont know whats wrong with it. but once you start on the free way it starts driving ok. still goes slow got it up to about 63 mph. but kinda hard to start and if your not flooring it when you throw it into drive the it dies and if your stopped and its in drive it just dies. So you have to throw it into nuetral before you stop.. climbing up hill floored it goes maybe 15mph but once its over maybe around 50 it will stay at a steady pace.. Just seein if any one could think of anything wrong with it. whole motor is stock. the guy that i got it from didnt no to much about cars and said his dad rebuilt the carb and it ran fine for awhile. but i dont know whats wrong with it. bad coil? idk. bad rebuild? idk some one got any other ideas whats wrong with it? |

I wonder if the timing is late? should be at least TDC. If the timing chain has jumped, the timing will appear really late. You also might want to check the valve timing against the timing mark on the harmonic balancer. |
