Hello all!

Am I crazy!! An 833 tranny with a 23 spline input shaft has two gears on the end inside the case, one for main drive and one for synchronizer. The one at the very end is thin (about 3/16 inch) and the one next to the input bearing inside the case is about an inch thick.

I needed to know the number of teeth on each. So I counted them. I found 36 on the thin one and 22 on the thick one. Now everyone I talk to and several ads I see say it should be 36 and 21.

Any of you have one handy to count teeth on and let me know if I am crazy with my count? After counting 6 times I don't see how I could be wrong, but would like to know for sure..

Thanks
rock

No, you're not going crazy... I do know on the A-833 OD that there are two variations in the teeth on the counter shaft and main shaft gearing, word had it that they stopped using the 'low' number count gears in the 1975/early 1976 boxes and went to the 'finer pitch'/ higher tooth count gearing to cut down on gearbox whine...

Rob,

We slanters are lucky to have you as a resource! You sure make me feel better...my forgetting things makes me feel crazy sometimes, but add that to wondering if I am forgetting how to count...sheeesh!

I guess there is no way to just interchange 21 and 22 toothers is there? I know, this is wishful thinking, and I am talking about just puttting one in in place of the other without changing the the other gears inside. I know enough about gearing to know how wishful this is, but still, just to ask someone who may know.

Thanks again for what you share with us,
rock

The pitch will most likely be wrong, and won't match up correctly...
