Do all 8 1/4 ring and pinion sets interchange between housings? Say 1973-1995. What about the truck rearends? I remember having a problem trying to put a 8 1/4 sure grip with 4.10 gears into a 1974 A body housing. It just would not set up right no matter what I tried. I took the same unit and installed it in a 1979 F body housing with no problems. I just had to change the carrier bearings. It just seems like 8 1/4 truck ring & pinions are turning up everywhere really cheap. Just wondering why.

There was some discussion on the 276 geared 8 1/4 as not being compatable with any other gear sets. I think that was Joshie 225's thread.
Im following this close as 8 3/4 are hard to find here.
