One way or another, your kickdown linkage is improperly installed and/or adjusted too short. |

If that's the case, something's not installed properly and/or some components are not correct. |

you need to adjust the kickdown so the valve on the tranny opens all the way when WOT. sounds like you might have it set to downshift a lot later so you dont feel that"hard shift" torque. but i could be wrong, i had to fiddle wit mine till i got it to downshift right. i almost wish these trannies were vacuum, not linkage kick, but its nice to adjust. |

That's actually not the specified adjustment procedure. Doing it that way will probably change the shifting behaviour, and sometimes by chance and luck you can get shifts you can live with, but if the trans doesn't respond properly to the correct adjustment procedure, usually it means something's wrong with the linkage assembly, and/or not all the correct pieces are in use.Quote: i almost wish these trannies were vacuum
Pfft. GM junk.

My bet is that the kickdown is misadjusted at the transmission. The 1-bbl kickdown can be adjusted under the hood. The super six kickdown is adjusted at the transmission. Crawl under the car, pull the kickdown lever on the transmission all the way back, and loosen the adjuster hold down bolt on the tranny lever. At the same time, have someone under the hood pull the throttle on the carb all the way open and hold. Make sure the kickdown lever on the tranny is all the way back. Retighten the kickdown lever at the tranny. Take it for a drive. Good luck! |
