Its in and functioning. Only one small problem with the kit and that was a faulty manual floor switch. Their using a high low beam foot switch and seeing as I need to replace it I might just use a latching push button mounted to the colunm shift arm, as long as I can find one that works and looks good.
The tunnel at the overdrive unit needed to be openned up about 3/8" to 1/2" around the top half. I used a $35 Craftsman air hammer with a straight chisel tip ground off flat. It worked alot better that I thought it would. Pull the trigger and slide it back and forth over the area to be expanded and like magic you can watch the metal move. My pancake air compressor has a hard time keeping up using the method, but the end result turned out very smooth. :D The driveshaft turned out perfect using the layout below. The exhaust was in the way by a little and as long as it was going to be cut, I figured I'd install a cutout and route the exhaust a little farther away from the GV's solinoid and the speedo cable.
I've driven it to the grocery and back but haven't had a chance to put it through it paces yet.
The last time the car was at the track it ran 15.6 in the 1/4. I am likely dreaming but I would like to see 14.99 with the open exhaust and split shifting through 6 gears. I have the low gear set and between the 2-3 shift it should help the most.

Does this unit let you run threw 1-2 normal then split the 2-3 shift?

Sounds good, i have not run my tranny yet but if it's as bad as it sound it's good to find a fix for it. Thanks for posting the pics and progress with the car.

I think they have an add-on computer so you can effectively get 6 gears..................... (1,1u,2,2u,3,3u)

Wow, that looks nice. I may need to try one of those sometime. I think the GV unit only weighs about 20lbs, and so only a net gain of 15 or so over a 904. My A500 is about 50lbs heavier...

Thanks for the pics,

Lou

PS, I would still highly recommend enlarging your exhaust and running individual 2 or 2.25" pipes from your DDuals down to a flowmaster Y just about at or a bit behind the trans X-member. 2.5 or 3" single out the back. My guess is you would gain 0.2-0.4 ET from this. Sorry if I'm being a pest.

For just street driving the large gap between 2-3 shift is no big deal. If your thinking getting a GV to help that shift alone, I wouldn't bother. If your buying one for the overdrive feature, then the 2-3 split shifting is a bonus. The GV will let you run lower gears in the rear and still have the highway speeds to stay with traffic. :D
I currently have a 3.07 rear gear. Top gear is like having a 2.39 rear gear.
I have a 3.55 gear set and if it's reinstalled it like having 2.77 gears, which are still good for the highway.
If I where to reinstall the 3.55 gears, split shift all gears, and open the exhaust cut out, I would think I would be in the 14's. I plan to first run this package only split shifting to see what gains or losses there are.

No computers for the 904 or 727. For that matter none for any trans thats not computer controlled all ready.

The shipping weight was 67lbs. as stated on the UPS box. I'd say that the whole thing adds a net weight of 45lbs. Your replacing the tail shaft housing with an adapter which weighs a bit more. Your cuting the driveshaft so your losing some there. Not in my case because I had a completly new shaft made a wanted it to hold at least 500HP (Hemi someday)

Your not being a pest. I am just not spending any more large dollar amounts on things that can't be used in the future Hemi swap.

Sounds good - understood on the outlay.

I'm surprised it's that heavy. I thought I picked one up at Spring Fling and it didn't feel like more than 30lbs. Nice thing is it puts the weight toward the back of the car, and low down.

What about pinion angle for your application?

On my '63 Dart the transmission tunnel is too small to simply enlarge it with an air hammer. I figured that I'd need to open it up 2 inches.

Since I didn't want to cut the tunnel, I modified the transmission cross member to lower the transmission/gv assembly 2 inches. The Gear Vendors tech guessed that this would not require a change in the pinion angle on my 111 inch wheelbase car.

I have not obtained a driveshaft yet, let alone gotten the car driveable, so I don't know whether his guess is correct or not. Since the wheelbase on your car is about 3 inches less, I figure that if you don't have a pinion angle problem, I won't either. My car has a 8.75 rear.

Thanks for the photos.

Last weekend I saw something like that bolted on to a Volvo transmission.

I believe that Volvo OD unit is what the GV unit is derived from. Same guts, different cases.

2" drop of the trans and not the engine will likely cause some driveline vibe. I have about 1/2-3/4" drop in my Dart and it does a little. Adjusting rear pinion angle should compensate though. Try and see.

Yup that looks a lot like the Laycock overdrive unit in my old Volvo 164E.

I think the 4 speed and OD from a 164 would be ideal for a slant.

The Gear Vendors overdrive is indeed the Laycock P-type overdrive. Volvo used the smaller J-type until the 1987 turbo cars. Gear Vendors will not sell you a tailhousing adapter unless you trade one in otherwise it would be pretty easy to swap in a junkyard Volvo OD.
