I have a chevy blazer that is having starting issues. When you try to start it the starter turns the motor over for just a second then you can hear the starter motor still running under not load. when it sounds like its not under a load it not longer turns the engine.. What I am wondering if this is a bendix problem or a ignition switch problem. anyone have any issues like this with a starter? IF so how did you fix it?

that would be an improvement - a Chev with a SLANT in it.

It sounds like a bendix problem to me as well. My Suburbans have gone through starters that way. It sounds to me like you need to replace the starter.

A solenoid mounted on the starter shoves the gear out on some of those. If you have a starter/alternator rebuilder close, I’d have it checked. I don’t know if the starter comes with a solenoid and the solenoid may
be all that you need.

On My 73 Blazer it was all in the same case. I used to carry a small hammer and tap the solinoid with the handle when it stuck. It worked for a month til I could afford a new one.

If the starter keeps running with the key all the way to the right, then it might be a bad ballast resister assuming Blazers have such. If so, confirm by bypassing the ballast resister with a jumper. I've done this a couple of times with my Darts.

Uh...no, definitely not.

Not only does the subject vehicle not have a ballast resistor, but this is not the symptom of a dead ballast resistor even if it did have one. A dead ballast resistor gives "cranks, fires, won't keep running when the key is released from 'start' to 'run'" symptoms.

I got a hold of the manual. The manual said that the starter had a clutch in it and would not turn the engine when it was bad. I got a new starter in it. The problem is fixed.
