I have a P/B 904 in my 62, and I'm trying to figure out what to do for a converter. I have a spare 904 from another car, adn a MP high stall converter.....so if i wanted, I could swap the inputs and the pump and run that, but I'm afraid the converter felt a bit off at times. on the other hand, TCI sells http://www.compperformancegroupstores.c ... ode=141302 but they said the input shaft pilot is typically a 1.81 vice the 1.806 listed. is the 1.806 the proper pilot sive for my application? any advice, 62 pump and input and the converter above, or change the P/B pump/input shaft to later model parts AND get a new T/C? budget for this project is 600.00 give or take. But, the less I spend the better. |

Do you have the big pilot hole in the back of you engine's crankshaft? If it's the stock engine in the 62, it has the small pilot hole and that means you can only use the small pilot converter. DD |

http://tinyurl.com/2knr7s Converter from SpecRite converters. (Blue one) A small/small stock looking but modified one. Foot brakes to 1800 and stalls at 2400. This was suppost to be a 2500 stall converter. Close enough. $100 + shipping |

sounds good, I measured mine today, the ID measured to about 1.55, the guys at TCI said they can machine it down to fit. |

Just so you know... 1960-67 Mopar 904 automatic transmission have a smaller, 3/4 inch diameter input shaft with 18 splines. The torque converter used with this transmission had that 1.56 pilot hub to fit into the same size hole in the back of the crankshaft for those years. In 1968, the 904's input shaft size increased to 7/8 inch diameter with 27 splines. The hub on the converter and the hole in the crank also got larger in order to accomodate the larger input shaft. SO, we have two different factory converters: the "small hub" 3/4" x 18 spline and the "large hub" 7/8" x 27 spline. You can not take a 'big hub' converter and machine down the hub to make it work with a small input shaft (18 spline) 904 because the input shaft and spline count is different. What you need is a high stall, "early" (18 spline) "small hub" converter. DD |

no worries, they only make one case for the 18 spline 904, and its an 11" converter. The 18 spline converter they have has a 1.806 "large hub", but they said machining that down shouldn't be an issue. |
