Post subject:  Upgrades questions

Hey everyone. I just purchased an 84 D-100 automatic truck for my son and I, to rebuild for his first truck. I have owned several slants in the past but have been out of touch with what is avail for upgrades on the slant?
I would love to get a roller rocker set clean up the lower end, upgrade the carb or install fuel injection and add a dual exhust system. What is avail out there now and where can I find the parts? Thanks for your help.
This SWB A/C truck is a very low mile unit and runs fantastic currently with only 45K one owner miles!

That is going to be an awesome ride, I'm quite jealous of your son already. Some of the "upgrades" availble are probably not much different that those 15 years ago. Clifford has some stuff, but not a reliable source. Also, there is a group buy going in on T&D and there going to be about $500 a set, not really practical.
As far as upgrades really go I would just break down the engine and go through it with some basic cool stuff. The bottom end will be perfectly fine, camshafts are avalible from cam grinders (.44 lift and 270 duration is a great street cam). Top her off with a good 4 barrel intake with a holley 390cfm. Headers are availble that split the exhaust, also Dutra Duals are a great option talk to Doug. Have your son go to town on the ports of the head before you take in into to have machine work done and it will most likely scream pretty good with all this.
If you truly want to fuel inject I have a article on in under the Fuel Injection section called "How to TBI." If you have any other Q's or want some easy tricks PM me. Read through the Engine Matrix thread also.

For a new cam the Erson group cam buy is still going on. It saves you about $40 bucks on a cam. There is a thread just for that here in the engine section.
Alot of the upgrades depend on what you want to do and your buget. You can have a stock looking 1 or 2 bbl that gets great mileage and power or go with a 4 bbl for an awesome race machine.
Look at the articles on the Main page they have some excellent common upgrades. Then use the search function to look up specfics. Then ask questions in the catorgory you need to.
Welcome,
Frank
