I'm planning on buying a '66 225 that's been bored .030" over and had the valves 3-angled (head was rebuilt and hardened seats were installed so no worries about that). The guy I'm buying it from says it has a mild cam, but doesn't remember what spec cam it is. It's got a Super Six and I'll eventually install Dutra Duals on it (for now it'll have the standard 2 1/4" exhaust into a Flowmaster 40 (or equivelant) muffler with a 2" tailpipe. What cam specs do you guys recommend for this engine? It'll be a daily driver, with highway performance in mind, but I still want reasonable economy. Say for a priority scale, 70% performance and 30% economy. |

If that 225 is really from 1966 and still has the '66 crank your automatic won't fit behind it as the snout on the torque converter is larger than the hole in the back of the crankshaft. I'm assuming this engine is for your Duster, correct? |

Yeah it is. I'll be installing a later model forged crank that'll accept the larger snout on a late model 904's torque converter since I plan to mate it to a freshly rebuilt lockup 904.

if your not bumping up the compression stay in the 450lift range, dur was 244deg stock so 250-260degs might be nice on the highway with a 2bbl super setup, with stock compression you can put more ingition timing to make up for the lower compression. |

.44 lift with 270 duration, great cam I believe it was the original hpak cam. Anyways from everything I read 270 duration is the best for street application, and .44-.48 lift, anymore your going to be getting bouncy. |

Sounds like it'd be a good long haul highway cam. So far all I've been able to find at online retailers close to that is an Isky on Summit with .448 lift (intake and exhaust) and 264 duration also for both intake and exhaust. I'm going to keep looking to see what else I can find though...

Whats wrong with a Erson cam? They are giving us a deal, and will grind pretty near anything you want.

Oh sweet! I didn't think the group buy was still on. I'm definitely down with saving some bucks on a cam.

Dan has posted a sticky in the Parts for Sale page and I have updated the Erson Cam Group Buy pricing/ordering information thread. Because of the excellent response we had, Tom has agreed to leave this group buy open indefinitely, but he is my only contact at the company, so I can't say this will be around forever  MJ |
