well here it goes, I will keep it short and sweet.

installed latching mechanism on hood, car ready to drive. fire it up and the oil pressure light remains on. Oil filter is full, so I deduce it is getting oil. Before I installed the cam plug and oil gallery plug, oil shot out of there, so I also deduce that the pump is working, meaning my sensing unit is shot.

Car still doesnt fire up without LOTS of convincing. I hear lots of strange knocking noises, my exhaust manifolds dont line up like they used to (I imagine it is because I have new motor mounts and the engine is sitting much differently now.

I just want to kill the car at this point, not even angry just fed up.

WHat could be knocking? (sounds like valves or even piston slap).
I get a strange popping also, intermittantly (i believe it is from the myriad of exhaust leaks).
What else can I look for to check for engine oil pressure, and how can I test the switch? (which was purchased brand new).

Lastly, who would want a 1966 dodge dart 270, with a 225 bored .060 over, with a two barrel weber carb, electronic ignition, electronic charging system (identical to a 1973 dodge with a slant), new oil pump, water pump, cam, and valve train and more crap I cant think of right now.

I am starting to just hate this car. I just wanting it running well enough so I can drive it with a for sale sign on it and get some money for it.

Caesar
help me please i am depressed about the car.

Not necessarily. You need oil pressure, not just oil. Before you assume the sender is bad, try a gauge. One can be put in along with the idiot light by using a tee at the block.
Have you done anything else to the car recently? Are you positive ALL the plugs were replaced? It's easy to miss one. DAMHIK

I think I'd drain and examine the oil for metal, etc. Pulling the pan might not be a bad idea, either. Also, check under the valve cover.

Pull the valve cover and look for oil on the valvetrain. Check the pressure with a gauge.

Lots of folks on this board, I would imagine! But I suspect more of us would want you to find the problem, fix it, and enjoy your car like we do ours.

We've all been there, Caesar. Remember Magnante's sign: "Without ugliness, there can be no beauty"

Time for a vacation from the car. Seriously! Only bad things can happen when trying to fix a car while angry, frustrated, and/or fed up. Stuff's going to get broken. Problems are going to be aggravated at worst, not-fixed at best. Drop the wrenches and forget the car is yours. Do other stuff totally unrelated for a week. If you can't spare a week, spare as much time as you can. If you happen to think of ideas for fixing it during your vacation, write 'em down and save 'em for later.

Your productivity and enjoyment, not to mention your odds of successfully fixing it, will be far higher once you're back from vacation.

Man, have I and several others I know been where you are! As Dan says , le it rest and think on it. Read old threads. Talk to other owners. But mostly, think and it will come to you.

Disregarding the manifold thing, is the timing right? You can get some truly amazing noises and still run up to 180 degrees off. I am the wizard who turned a newly built engine into a fuelie with flames galore with only two plug wires out of sequence, for instance. Startling and cool, but not roadworthy, and you shoulda heard the valve rattles.

Sounds like you have no oil pressure, that leave a knock for sure. Timing, plugs, wire, firing order could all be a possible poping sound.

Find the problem on the oil first, or you are not going to have a motor left to tune.

I dont want the car anymore, havent for a while. I am only trying to fix it so I can sell it. My dad is up my ass about getting it out of the garage and I hate working on the car with him, a truly unpleasant person to do anything with lately.

I work two jobs, full-time student, and I have a daughter. THe car is not even on my priority list. I just need the money from its sale to pay off debt and that is it.

I can recheck timing, I already checked, THREE times by confirming TDC at #1, lining everything up right, and reconnecting all the wires, and reinstalling the valve cover.

I was told to do it all over again, again now for the fourth time. Is there an idiot proof way to check to make sure the engine is at #1 TDC?

Also, the engine cannot be removed, lifted out, hoisted out. If that is what needs to be done I Will drive it to the street and donate it to a wrecking yard just to be rid of it. The manual says if there is a "drop" in pressure it could be a few things. the only options which seem feasible are stuck pressure valve in the pump or a bad switch.

Real quick, how can i check for actual pressure?

also i read somwhere to remove ALL plugs and turn the engine over using starter, the light should (idiot light for oil pressure) go out in 15-20 seconds if everything is okay.

Didn't realise you were under such pressure from several directions on the car. Sorry to read you and your dad aren't getting along; I lost mine to cancer just shy of his 58th birthday and thinking about the lost opportunities still hurts like crazy. A stuck pressure relief valve in the oil pump would be easy to check and fix; use the board's search function to look for the word "relief" in the Engine forum.

according to the manual the pressure relief valve calls for lifting the engine out of the bay, at least enough to stick a 2x4 between it and the frame. I tried to get a wrench on it today and due to its proximity with the frame there was no way.

I am at my wits end. I have been thinking all day and the only thing I can think of for knocking is timing, seriously everything else internally is physically good. Rods were machined and checked and A-ok. all nuts and bolts torqued to spec and everything was within tolerance.

The oil pressure issue just scares me, I dont want to flatten the cam or burn a bearing just driving down the street or even to a mechanic to have the thing taken care of.

It sucks. the car was something that i loved to work on and constantly improve, but now it has become a symbol of the animosity and tension between my dad and i, and it is bad. I just look at the car and feel nothing but contempt for it. I am just trying to simplify my life at this point and everytime i come close to doing that with the car (getting it running to sell) i hit a major setback and things get SUPER complicated.

and as for pressure I failed to mention the car has to be out of the garage by the 19th of this month, that is tuesday.
So if I cant drive it, or feel confident driving it by tuesday I am just going to drive up to the street level and have it towed either:
A) to a mechanic and have them deal with it, pay with credit card and get in more debt and hopefully i can sell it and offset the debt or
B) junk the damn thing and stop dumping money into it and just take one more year to pay off my other debts (and my mounting college expenses).

It is not fun anymore.
