Post subject:  Carburetor flow rates

I found this on a Jeep site while looking for info on Motorcraft carbs (namely the 2100 and the 2150) and thought it could help out some of the guys here researching carbs.

1 bbl YF Carter = 187-220 CFM
2bbl BBD Carter = Around 195 CFM.
2bbl Progressive 32/36 DGEV Weber = 300 CFM
2bbl 38 DEGS Weber = 400 CFM
2bbl 2100 = Depends on venturi size...

Number = CFM
.98 = 190
1.01 = 240
1.02 = 245
1.08 = 287
1.14 = 300
1.21 = 351
1.23 = 356
1.33 = 424

Sounds like for a Super Six setup with a mild cam and Dutra Duals, adapting a 1.14" venturi 2100 or 2150 would be an excellent number. That's the size I'll be looking for when I get my paws on a Super Six intake.

Also, concerning the difference between the 2100 and the 2150, it seems the only difference is that the 2150 has an "altitude adjuster" valve built in, whereas the 2100 does not.

I was just checking my Holley book and the 1 9/16 (small bore) 1920 Holley flows at 160 cfm, used on 170's and the 1 11/16 (larger bore) 1920 Holley flows at 235 cfm.

I am surprised the Carter BBD flows less than the larger bore 1920 Holley.

SL6Dan can you verify the BBD cfm rate?

I'm honestly not so sure on the BBD flow rate either. These numbers came from a Jeep forum, so I wonder if a different Carter BBD was used for the 258ci Jeep engines than Chrysler's Super Six equipped engines.

I see problems with most of the numbers posted so far. There are significant differences between the AMC BBDs and the Chrysler units, so I'd hesitate to use the AMC numbers in calculations involving any Chrysler BBD, and there are so many different venturi sizes even just looking at Chrysler BBDs that there's surely no single CFM figure that applies to them all. I also have a bit of difficulty believing that there is such a large difference in flow between a Holley 1920 with a 1-9/16" throttle bore and a Holley 1920 with a 1-11/16" bore — and there again, there were lots of different venturi sizes used with those two different throttle bores, so a single figure for all of them doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Unfortunately, beyond that raised eyebrow, I don't have better numbers to substitute.
