Hello. With my stock 225 cu inch slant six, what would the redline of that engine be? How do you determine the redline of an engine? Is it some formula dealing with the stroke and bore of the pistons or something like that? The reason I'm asking is I don't wanna blow up my newly acquired slant 6 by revving it too far. Also I kinda wanted to put a rev limiter or some other sort of safety device to keep the engine from falling apart.

The small carburator and cam on most SL6 engines will determine the engine's "redline".
Think of it as a built-in rev limiter.
FYI, a performance 225 SL6 can be reved to 6000 - 6500 RPM.

Ah, so I don't have to worry about someone flooring it and blowing up the engine? Wow that's good to know.

I usually drive my SL6 cars with the throttle 'floored'.

With a 1bbl and single exhaust 4500 will usually have the motor with it's little tongue hanging out.

Heh, I'm just worried something expensive is going to break (like a rod or a piston) if I rev it too high. I was thinking of setting the redline for my old junkyard slant six at about 4000 and maybe putting some sort of limiter on there lol. Vrum vrum vrum vrum vrum vrum vrum. At least until I rebuild it that is ;)

A high gear ratio rear like mine, 2.76 your going to run out of road be fore it blows up! Another kind of rev limiter. With a one barrel you don't need a rev limiter.

I have trashed 3 rear ends in 5 years....I finally built a 8 3/4 for the Dart. :D
