I am looking at a 68 dart with a slant 6, considering to buy, and the owner says the newly rebuilt engine runs a bit too warm. what should i look for as a cause, besides radiator leaks and low oil, and how seriously should i take this problem? lachana@mindspring.com |

I would take the problem seriously but it may not be a serious problem. A loose fan belt, bad thermostat or a faulty temp sending unit or guage could be the cause. A clogged radiator (likly) or a defective water pump (rare) are other poss. causes which are not that tough to fix. Be sure you look close at the oil, is it "muddy looking"? Any mosture around the PCV valve or valve cover breather cap? Does the engine produce a lot of white vapor when started-up cold. Any of this is a sign that the engine has been over heated badly and may have a crack(s)... Now that is a serious problem. DD |
