Replacing it in the car will be a real P.I.T.A. to say the least. I did it once on a small block, and it wasn't too bad, but the /6 seal is up in the block more. I'm assembling my new "Screamin' Six" motor, and just put the rear main together yesterday. Lots of gaps the gaskets don't cover. Used lots of blue RTV. |

The oil pan comes right off of my Dodge truck. Can I use a rope type seal? I'd hate to have to pull the crank. now that would be a pain! Thanks Shearnstable@earthlink.net |

When I replaced the rear main seal on my A100 I dropped the oil pan and then took a small piece of wood dowel that was smaller than the rear main seal - and I tapped the upper part of the seal and away it went - it spun down to the point that I was able to grab it and spin it the rest of the way out. The new one spun right on it too! Make sure you put the new one on facing the correct way though - that's why I had to change mine in the first place - the previous one was on backwards. Haven't had a leak out of it since. Good luck, Dan gramma@dm-tech.net |
