I am getting ready to install a Holley 1945 on my 63 Dart driver and noticed that when I rebuilt it it had a rather fat jet (60) in it and was thinking of a 57 to get it dialed for the 170.
I was told by a Chrysler mechanic that the 1945 carbs were jetted bigger because of some of the emission controls that were in use when they were installed at the the factory, does anyone know if this is the case?
I have already converted this car to cable style throttle linkage and it is a 3spd manual so installing it will be a straight forward operation.
Thanks

He wouldn't remember correctly if that were the case...
When the 1945 came out in the 1974 model year it had all the same emissions equipment the later cars had save one item the cat convertor in the tailpipe (started in the 1975 year)...

The stock 1974 carb had a #58 jet and it ran reallly lean (I had one on my '74 Duster and stepping up the main jet to a #60-61 fixed that nice surge during cruise at 55 mph...)

The factory for 1975+ did go up to the 61 jet (not sure why pouring more gas into a car with an obstruction/cat convertor in the tailpipe would help things...)

I would keep the #60, see how it runs, set timing/set mix, check the plugs, if to rich you can back down a bit, but the bores are pretty big on the 1945... if you do step down try the 58...)
