Hello, I have a '63 slant 6 with a #5 rocker arm that slipped on its axis such that the arm disengaged from the valve and pushrod. I have never adjusted the valves. Is this disaster a result of loose valve adjustments? Any suggestions would be helpful before attempting to reposition the rocker arm. regards, Dan dkalcic@mail.arc.nasa.gov |

I would try to adjust the valves at .010 intake/ .020 exhaust (for a stock cam) while the engine is hot and running. If the rocker goes out again you can get a rebuilt rocker shaft assembly from Kanter Assoc in New Jersey for about $40 or you can get the ARP long adjusters and double nut them and they will never slip. Hope this helps MrSlant@pacbell.net |

"Roll" the pushrod to make sure it is not bent, check the rocker arm side clearance and adjust as needed. (rocker shaft retainer washers) Once everything is back together, re-torque the head and adjust the lash. DD |
