Post subject:  slant six performance mods etc.

Hello members! I have not posted here in a looong time. Big Time health issues.Anyhow, I have all but closed a deal on a nice 70 Swinger with a slant. I was going to drop a 340 into it but kind of hit on an old nerve. Maybe this is the time to build a slant (again) since the last one was over 30 years ago!
I do not want to go way out there. Just pep and flash is all I am looking for. Some misc. chrome and other goodies as it does have to have the flash.
First of all I do not know where to begin with the wants and needs so maybe somebody can help me out.
1) Finned aluminum valve cover. An Offy like I had in the 'old days'. Can one of these still be had?
2) Dual carb intake able to handle 2 bbl carbs instead of singles.
3) Single hedder running to a dual outlet muffler and exiting out back.
4) a light cam perhaps?
5) better ignition system.
These are just a few things I have been kicking around the past few days. Big thing will be finding the stuff to do this. Any ideas if I am going the wrong way with this and perhaps need to change what I am maybe doing? Am I going to break the bank to find performance stuff for the slant? Thanks for any help here!
Chas.

Is this the same Chaz Ram from CMC, who helped me find a Neon last fall ??? I'll try to answer most of your questions. #1, Offy VC is still avalible from Summit and other sources. #2, there was a dual 2bbl intake (Offy?) carb set up being sold by a company reciently (2-3 years ago ?) I think they are out of buisness, but might be found here or e-bay. Super Six 2bbl and various 4bbls are also out there and easier to find. #3, Headers are avalible, but finding a new set is tough. I'm not sure I would trust Clifford. I think Slantzilla (Dennis) has the header you're thinking of, but I don't know if he wants to part with it. #4, Check the parts for sale section for the Earson group buy. #5 Ignition is simple, Mopar electronic, HEI upgrade (search the site), MSD box, all easy upgrades. If you need any help, just let me know I owe you one for tipping me off on the Neon.

Cam it up! That was one of the best performance enhancers. Don't forget that shaving .1 off the head will really pep up the compression but will still run pump gas. Headers are cool, and Dutra Duals are an option PM Doc.
Frankly I wouldn't skimp too much because all the normal hot rod tricks are needed to really make a nice slant that is fun to drive. I did mine well within budget and really love it as a daily driver, it's peppy but has good mileage.

Offie still has a dual carb manifold. The carb mountings, can easily be modified for 2 bbl carbs. I also suggest a head mill, and maybe a fresh valve job, while doing the other up grades.

Hey, Chaz... I didn't see you at the Roesch swap this year like usual... it was freezeyourassoff COLD there this year! I didn't have a booth this year, as I've had a couple of health issues myself these last 6 months. Still got your '75? Ever find a car for your son out west? My Volare is at a standstill as I took it into the body shop for, in the shop owner's words "a good week or 2's worth of work", 1-1/2 years ago, still there collecting dust, not even started on yet. I bought very low mile a 78 Fury 2 dt HT last April, largely out of aggravation and tiredness of waiting on the Volare. 11 months later the Volare still sits there, though in the last 6 months, I couldn't have touched it if I wanted to (and yes, I do want to get er done); still picking up parts and pieces now and then. I hope not, but my plans to convert from it an auto to a 5 speed may not happen now, from what the Doc says here lately. I've been off work myself since 9/26, because of a bad right leg injury. PM me thru the board here or call me if you still have my phone number.

I think ProLineFuel is no longer selling their dual two barrel setup, but it was basically a set of Pierce Manifolds adapters on a Offenhauser dual 1-bbl manifold. They may have built a linkage for it as well.

...an excellent start...

Yep! Offy still sell the same valve cover you remember. It still lacks provisions for proper crankcase ventilation, but this can be solved without much difficulty; see this post (info for the cruddy Chinese chrome covers is also applicable to the Offy cover; you just need to drill the Offy cover for the oil separator/PCV cap described in the linked thread)

Offy again. They still make their p/n 5041 dual 1bbl intake, with large carb mounting pads easily modifiable to accept twin 2bbls. Or, you could wait for reproductions of these to become available; see this thread.

3) Single hedder running to a dual outlet muffler and exiting out back.
Or Dutra Duals with dual pipes all the way back, for "audio-visual" flash

4) a light cam perhaps?
Yep! The Erson cam group buy is still on.

5) better ignition system.
See HEI upgrade instructions

Chaz,

If you really want a dual Offy intake I'd sell mine since I now have a Clifford intake. It's the late one with big mounting pads that can be drilled to accept 2bbls just like offyparts.com sells for $400 and change. I have a Weber 32/36 DGAV that is whole and was on a good running car, but should be gone through at this time. I also, have a parts carb that was robbed of it's jets and such. I have at least one Weber air cleaner, but I'm pretty sure I have two.

PM me and I'll make you a deal.

Joshua

I was just on the pierce manifold website and they offer what looks like the offy5041 with two 36 DCNVH carbs. Not sure of price or cfm. Look under Hot Rod Webers.
