I think someone asked for pics of how to CC a head

Image
The head.

Image
I "paint" a thin layer of wheel bearing grease around the chamber to make it seal.

Image
This is a cover form a CD case with 2 holes drilled in it the 1/4" hole is for
filling the chamber the smaller hole is to allow air to escape. The grease "glues" it to the head to prevent leaks.

Image
I use a 60 CC (or ML) syringe from Tractor Supply (about $2.69 for a 2 pack) to fill the chamber.

Image
This is just water with a few drops of green food coloring to mak it easier to see.

Image
Fill the syringe with the water and try to get all the air bubbles out, get as exact as possible to the 60CC line. Try not to have this many air bubbles at the bottom.

Image
Slowly inject the water in to the chamber.

Image
The chamber filled with water

then just subtract what you have left in the syringe from the filled volume (60CC in this case) and that is your chamber volume. In the case of a larger chamber you may have to fill it up a second time and add the volume of 2 full syringes and subtract what is left. With a smaller syringe you just have to keep track of how many times you had to fill it.

Done carefully this will get you within a CC or two which is close enough for most of us. The more careful you are and the less air you have the more exact it is.

I had problems acquiring a CC kit, I'm sure there is places to get them without being hassled. Instead though I was thinking about filling the head was play dough, and putting it in water to measure the water displaced. The Biology center get's rid of beakers every once in a while and you can get a good one if you search through them. Has anyone tried this before?

That's pretty much the procedure to figure out the volume of valve cutout notches in pistons.............

I had no problem at all getting the syringes at tractor supply today, no questions asked. They keep them right out on the shelf in the cattle health supply section.

A 60cc catheter syringe is useless to a junkie....ask at your pharmacy.....if all else fails tell him the truth.

Yip, I got mine at the pharmacy as well (behind the counter). The other thing I did was cut a hole in some leftover lexan with a 5" hole saw. then add another hole for a breather. This rigid piece will never get cracked in the bottom of the tool box.

Sandy, I think you need to patent your design. (unless you stole it from someone else.)

I have a patent....it cost me $6500....

The CD cover was my own idea....but I think trying to collect royalties on it may be tough

Brass exhaust hangers? What's going on here?

You may just have to settle for recognition for the cd case idea.

only a car guy would rig up a device outta exhaust clamps to go camp in a tipi... are you guys get a CC reading to get a better displacement idea?

Tophat, thanks for the pics!! After the chambers are cc'ed and TDC and deck heighth are determined (as well as bore size), What is the formula for determining compresion ratio? Thanks,Wayne. :?
