Does anybody know if there is any difference between a factory propane slant 6 and the normal gas slant 6?

(out of a van)

Check with one of your local forklift repair shops. The 225 was used in quite a few forklifts and were running on propane, we even had one at the place where I work. Don't think there is any differences except the addition of the Carb and the neccesary regulators.

Hardened exhaust valve seats are needed when using propane, everything else is fine the way it comes in a gasoline powered SL6 but I have heard propane can take more compression. (or boost!)

This is a factory converted propane Slant 6. I am going to bolt on my planed cylinder head. I was just wondering if they used more compression to start with on the propane engine? I don't want to raise it up too much by putting on a shaved head. thank you. brent

Did they make factory converted Propane slant 6's in vans?

I'm running my 1987 Dodge truck slant 6 on Propane. I just bolted on the propane stuff and away I went. slant 6's since 1972 or so had the harded valve seats for unleaded fuel wich is also needed for propane.
I'm running a dual fuel conversion (propane / gasoline), I just flip the switch to the desired fuel.

Yes, You can run higher compression on propane. I want to mill my head to get about 9.5:1 bacause I'm dual fuel. If it were straight propane I think you can safely run 10 or 10.5:1. Maybe more depending on what the engine is used for. My problem will be the hydraulic lifters and I'll probably need custom pushrod length to get it to work with milled head.

Anyone know where and how to get custom length pushrods for a hydraulic lifter slant 6 ???

Smith Brothers Pushods 800 367 1533 fax 541 389 8840 <A HREF="http://www.pushrods.net">www.pushrods.net</A> They have just about any length,any end and any diameter you could come up with. I have ordered many sets from these guys with no problems and the price is more than fair.

If you plan on scrapping the propane stuff, let me know, I'd be interested in getting it from you, especialy if it's fairly complete..

It's a good idea to run more compression on propane to compensate for the power loss. Propane usually averages about 104-106 octane, so 10-1 compression is no problem. My friend ran at 11-1, but he had a fairly big cam in his /6. If you are going to wind this up a little higher you may want to check your mixer sizing. It's always better to be a bit bigger with a mixer(carb) than smaller. I have a chart for mixer sizing and flow. If anyone needs this info, let me know and I can email it to you.
