Are there any issues in putting a 225 that had a manual behind it in place of a 170 that has an automatic? They are both 63's. Do you just bolt the flexplate in place of the flywheel, or is the crank end different? I'm thinking of buying a 63 Dart and putting my 225 in it. I know it's taller, but the 225 was an option I believe. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Wylde Bill

I am about to do the same thing in my 63 Dart.

The flexplate bolts right on in place of the flywheel, you need to use the shorter bolts that were holding the flexplate on the 170.

The only other "complication" that I know of is as you said the 225 is about 1" taller, this means that the exhaust pipe won't quite reach the manifold. Cutting the pipe and sleeving an extra inch in shouldn't be a big deal if you have a welder. If you don't have a welder then it is a good excuse to take it to the exhaust shop and have a fatter pipe made.

I have used an old exhaust pipe flange, longer bolts and two gaskets to fix the "170 exhaust pipe does not reach" problem.
