Post subject:  HILBORN UP-DATE HARD CORE ONLY

I finally got a answer from Hilborn what is included for the money. Cast aluminum intake manifold with 6 seperate throttle bores, throttle shaft, butterflies, barrel valve, hoses from valve to nozzels,nozzels,bi-pass valve and secondary bi-pass valve. This system is made to run on pump gas, race fuel or alochol. When purchased they will match the nozzels to the fuel you will be using. The only thing left is the pump and the pump drive which is driven and 1/2 crankshaft speed. This is a mech system,NOT electronic and is for racing only.

Looks pretty complete, We have to get 5 ordered for Hilborn to run these-off right?
Do you think there is any room to negotiate on the pricing??

Don was the contact person at Hilborn. Now you have to remember they haven't made this manifold for along time so they just said around $1200 ? Maybe if more poeple called in they might lower the price. I think we would have problems finding many racers wanting to spend this much money. I talked with another racer who built his from Hilborn parts and he said that this by far was cheaper than the route he tried. If I have to, I'll purchase two.

Dave, any idea when this deal is gonna happen? I got some spare coins laying around and this sounds like a neat way to get rid of them. Dennis

dont know if i'd want to run mechanical....
but the thought of 6 stacks and bungs welded in for EFI injectors sure paints a neat picture for one of my street cars !

what runner length etc we talkin , streetable?

Hey, now that's an idea, add some bungs for injectors or NOS fogger nozzles.

Dave, I will drop you an email and we can trade some info. I can give Hilborn a call next week to see what their casting pattern is like, it will be pretty easy to add some "bosses" onto the pattern so these get casted right onto the new manifolds.

Call Kinsler, They quoted me a price a while back of $2200 for a complete EFI system for a slant 6. This was everything including sensors, throttle bodies...etc. They would assemble it all to make sure there were no problems. They also said they could put together a mechanical system cheaper but I was not interested in mechanical.

I tried calling these guys also and they said if I furnished some kind of a manifold they could build the rest, but they quoted me around $4500+ for the EFI with all the sensors ?????

Doug My contact name at Hilborn was Don and his phone number is 949 360 0909 We should all keep calling this guy and it will speed up the process. As far as the "bungs" I did not ask what size their hole was or what thread pitch they used for their nozzel. This "bung" is already cast into their manifold at the correct angle and maybe we could build from this. The more poeple that contact Don the cheaper the manifold will be.

My brain is working slower today ! When I called Kinsler I was talking to them about using alochol for the fuel sourse. I wonder if this is why the price quote was different ?

Checking the old original I have, the nozzles are mounted at 90* to the runner, and are 1/8npt. The nozzles themselves protrude into the runner about 1/2", and have a 45* cut in them to direct the stream straight into the head port.

Seeing you have one of these manifolds Roger, how big of a diameter is this boss, how thick is the wall section at the boss and is it right at the end of the runner?
Does it look like there is enough room to make the boss bigger or add a second one closer to the head flange?
(Do you have a digital camera, if so, email me a PIC and I will post it here)
