Okay folks...who can tell me what about copper slant head gaskets of the early '60s? I understand they were produced for the aluminum block engines...anything else? |

I don't believe that the aluminum engines had a copper gasket, but it was different than the stamped steel gasket the iron block Slant got. |

They were all copper on one side, composite on the other. Fire rings are copper. Hard to find these days. For Al engine '61-63 only... Lou |

Yup, the aluminum-engne head gasket was a copper/asbestos laminate. It is not a "performance" gasket and not something you'd want to seek out for use on an iron engine. |

I have heard rumors that you can use a standard Fel Pro or equivalent on the Al engine. Can either of you confirm or deny that please? |

Deny. You cannot. |

Meril Bruner claimed he used a standard composite (late aftermarket) style gasket on a stock Al engine rebuild. No problems, but not high power either. Lou |

Hmmmmm, looks like a split decision here. The gist of the runor was that the original composite gasket was used because the steel shim was the only other gasket available at the time. Nowadays, composite gaskets are the norm. |

It's not just the material. The cutouts are different. |

Meril has been known to get creative with "making stuff work." Lou |

So...what application were they used for? I have seen a couple from Chrysler, in the Chrysler sleeve/box and I picked up a couple from another aftermarket company that actually look better than those from Mopar...maybe trading material! |
