| Post subject: | Installing a Hyper Pak |
Im installing a clifford hyper pak into a 62 valiant with a 225. Im using the original afb and ram air cleaner. However, once installed the there isnt enough clearence between the hood and the air cleaner I no in 1960 the originals had a 170 these had a shorter deck and Im guessing that this problem didint happen on the earlier hyper paks. However we all know that this was a dealer installed option and was available from 1960-1962 on both Valiants and Lancers, does anyone know what they did to make them fit? Did they use different engine mounts, different k frame? I hear on the grape vine that there was also a Hyper Pak 12 page installation book/manual it would be realy cool to have a read of one and suss it out. Does any one know where you can get a copy of the booket.........If there is one! Does anyone have any pictures of an original hyper pak set up in a valiant or lancer? Correct me if I wrong there were around 400-500 original hyper paks installed, is there any count of how many are in existance today? I know of 3. |

At least one of the road tests I have, of a '61 Lancer 225 w/Hyper Pak, remarks on the loud intake roar because of there being no room for an air cleaner. Definitely a race-only item (w/frequent engine rebuilds or w/o hood or w/hole in hood). That '62 Valiant w/all-aluminum Hyper Pak that went by on eBay awhile ago had the air cleaner sticking up through a hole in the hood. The booklet does exist, but doesn't contain any info on air cleaners or making the kit fit a 225. |

I looked at one recently, it seemed to have shims under the R/H engine mount. 1/8" at the mount is probably 1/2" at the carb with a hyper-pak. (BTW, this was an after market install, not factory) |

Yeah I have the article That dan i referring to as well. THere was no room for the ait filter to install on the test lancer - They commented on the greasy spot on the underside of the hood left by there being no air fileter. Here is some info on my workaround on my car: http://moparmarketforum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7129 Well I was going to post you a link to something I posed on this topic on www.moparmarketforum.com Their Forum Site appears to be down. I'll edit when their site is back up. Greg |

You might try looking for a 14 inch aircleaner assembly for dirt track or short track cars.I know that Moroso makes an offset dropped base aircleaner that would set the assembly towards the middle of the hood. You may have to get creative and use a carb hat and remote air cleaner element. I chose to cut my hood on my 60 V200 and fabbed a metal scoop that mimics the shape of the hood and seals the aircleaner to the hood to direct cool outside air the carb.I did use a less than perfect hood for this though.
