Post subject:  speakers for 64 convertable

i was hoping to put a stereo system in my 64 valiant convertable and do not know where a good location to put the speakers. the original am is still in it and the single dash speaker is shot. does anyone have any idea where a good location would be for speakers short of putting them in the doors (which i refuse to do). i'm open for suggestions and ideas.

Make your own kick panel enclosure, something like THIS technique without all the framework.

There are stereo speaker kits to fit the stock dash location available for a reasonable price; a club member bought one from Custom Autosound (http://www.casmfg.com/) for the Tidewater Mopar Club giveaway 1975 Duster (http://www.tidewatermoparclub.com/Givea ... /2004.html).
It worked fine with a 20W AM/FM/CD (but not a lot of bass volume).

Also, when the TMC did our 1965 Barracuda, (http://www.tidewatermoparclub.com/Givea ... /2001.html),
I used one 6x9" of a pair under the dash and put the other in the hole for the (missing) rear window defogger. Both fit perfectly and it sounded good with another 20W AM/FM/CD in the dash.

We would have kept both stock AM-only mono-2W for both, but previous owners had rather crudely whacked out the original radios leaving ragged holes.

The dash setup is a good no-cut workaround, but the speakers are really too close to get stereo separation.

One in the dash and one is the package tray is easy, but it's like you're sitting sideways to the music!

I had a couple of small speakers mounted on brackets under the dash, in front of the vents, until my son needed them more than I did. That worked well for me, but I'm not really an audiophile.

The original dash speaker is toast. I went back to the factory AM radio (Valiant Transaudio!) and one small speaker mounted to the firewall/transmission hump area - probably not what interests you. :D
