| Post subject: | Slantsix with throttle body & ignition from 88 Chevy 4.3 |
Have not attempted it since I wanted to ask. I have a 88 Chevy Astrovan with a 4.3 that has a cracked block with relatively new parts on/in it. Looking at swapping the throttle body and associated equipment along with the electronic ignition, coil and so on. Will also reuse the sending unit in the tank if it will fit properly in the pickup's tank. Otherwise I will buy a new one. I am quite adept at fabricating the things I need. I read the article about the batch fired electronic ignition from the 3.8l and it made me curious about the 4.3. The article on Slantsix.org speaks of up to '85 being "Batch fired" so I am curious if it will still work. |

After doing a bit more reading I see that the answer is moot. Won't work. Thanks anyway |

It will work...and if you search you can find lots of info. Runvs has a working setup. |

Well, if I wanted to go with the MegaSquirt it would be fine but my thoughts were just on reusing parts that I had which included the computer. I am sure that it would be a lot of fun to engage in the project with the Megasquirt but at present I just don't have the time to dedicate myself to such an endeavor. Wife plus four sons plus job divided by 24 hours a day = Very little spare time for guess work Cheers! |

You might be able to make all the Chevy stuff work, but you need to duplicate all the sensors and signals form the 4.3 on the 225. Even then it could end up running poorly and require a custom PROM. With the cost of Megasquirt being so low I say rob the 4.3 of the hardware you need and control it with MS. |

I feel your pain. But I wouldn't trade it for the world either!
Cheers! |

I have a similar equation; 1 wife + 3 daughters + 2 jobs = no play time I'm tossing around the idea of going w/ TBI. The wife won't drive the car because it has too much "personality" with it being carbed right now. That and she says it's too ugly for her, haha. |
