How can I tell if my damper has slipped on the inner ring ,I'm going nuts trying to time my 225 and have it run with out rattling itself to death. Thanks , Chas

A "wobble" in the V.B. pulley is a dead give-away.
Also a simple check by pulling the #1 spark plug and "feeling" for TDC with a probe can help you spot a significant slip. (more then 10º or so)

The best way is by using the "positive stop" methode and a degree wheel. You can make the positive stop from some 14mm threaded rod, I round the tip so it does not nick the piston top.

You screw the stop into the #1 spark plug hole and rotate the engine untill it stops. (slow and easy does it) Now mark this place on your damper or degree wheel. Rotate the engine backwards untill the engine stops again, place another mark, now measure. Your TDC mark should be in the exact middle, in between the two marks you just made. if it is not, the pulley has slipped or was never correct to begain with.

This won't help with a dampener problem but time it for best vacuum at idle. In the past I have done this and come up wiht setting it at 12 BTDC almost every time.
