No, he did not have a Slant Six in there.

So, some of the a-bodys got a little spoiler on the deck-lid called a go-wing, right? Then the Aspen R/T was treated to a front air damn in addition to a deck-lid wing... Was there ever a front air damn for an A-body? How about the aftermarket? |

I didn't meet him. He was a competitor in the 2005 Big Bend Open Road Race held on US 285 between Fort Stockton and Sanderson, Texas. I volunteer as a courseworker at the BBORR. It's the best seat in the house that doesn't have a steering wheel. Here's the car at speed:  ... and one of from the back:  27 169 Jerry White, Spring Creek, NV Robi White 69 Dodge Dart 0.020-mph (0:00.576+t) 29:32.025 @ 119.863 29:28.551 @ 120.098 Car #169 (POS 27) in THIS result list. 1969 Dodge Dart, running with 120 MPH target speed. Radar clocked him at 133 and 135 MPH on a couple of the faster stretches. |

That race sounds frggin RAD! Too bad there isn't something like that up in the pac nw...  (that I know of, anyway!) |

That air damn must work. I remember back when I had my first Dart it would enter what like to call "preflight stage" over 85 mph. It was when the front end felt as if it were lifting, and the steering became much lighter. I reached preflight most every day on six miles of I-95 going to school UMO. That car had a three speed, 273 cid, and crummy 13 inch wheels, and would do 110 mph... Well, according to the dash that is. However those 'one-stop' 9 inch drums were something else. |

The only other events I know of are in Nevada (Wendover and Battle Mountain, and the Silver State Classic) and Nebraska (Sand Hills). The other Texas race, the Road Runner Open Road Race, has been cancelled. Same people as BBORR, different road. (that I know of, anyway!) Looking at my photos from the race, aerodynamics are very important to speed AND control. You have to keep the front tires in contact with the road! |

I'll have to dig around... but I believe that Direct Connection used to offer an air dam for the Duster and Dart Sport. -Mac |
