Hey Doug, would you assume the buick valves would be ok for a camshalf with aprox. .460-.467 lift? Is it possible to change anything by a few thousandths to get it closer in spec with a stock /6 valve lenth? Thanx Do0dlebug19@aol.com |

The key is to have all the correct springs, retainers and locks (keepers) which go with the valve. The spring's Installed Height must be checked (seat pressure) Also be sure the guides are sized correctly seeing that different valves can have different stem diameters for oil clearance. To correct for the shorter Buick valve length, all you can do is mill the head. (this helps give back some pushrod adjuster turns) The other thing I have seen done is to "sink" the valve seat into the head deeper. This is NOT a good thing to do because it reduces flow. Let's face it, you have more to work with if the valve is a little longer, not shorter. DD |

Exhaust is usually where the hp gains are. Dealing with a whole different engine now, you tell me whats more important, intake or exh.? Thanx a Million Do0dlebug19@aol.com |

Thanx a Million You are in a good size range and yes, the exhaust side tends to need a little more effort, both side benifit for all the porting work you can give them, think "line of sight" or trying to take some of the bend out of the port as well as grinding-out all the restrictions. Hello All, Even though milling the head would allow the pushrod to reach, the rocker geometry may be affected by the shorter valves, no? Maybe lash caps could be used to make the buick valves the same heigth as stock? I've seen lash caps in .060" and .080" Dave <snip Quote:

Lash caps are commonly used with valves that have no hard tip. They aren't real pricey. They also give more area for the rocker to work against [a good thing]. I assume that you may have rocker geometry problems with short valves. Some experts may be better able to advise. Dave Quote:
