Post subject:  A few ?s on carb swap
I have a 81 D150 with a 1945. I was taking of a vacuum hose and the nipple broke off with it.
I have been wanting to do the lean burn conversion ,and I guess now is a good time.
I have been searching on the site and still have some questions.
1. which carb (1920 , bbs)would be the best ,and easiest to find,and to get a kit for?
2. What year would be the best for me? It seems that the latest might be my best bet.(1973)
3. Would these carbs have the sufficient amount of vacuum ports I need?
(I have two charcoal canisters that go to my carb now and the regular stuff)
4.If I get one from a junkyard ,is there a way to tell the year by the number on the carb ,and how?

I dont think my computer is up to par ,It has not been driven for a good while and when it was it was handling roughly.
I would just like it simple , and the best running setup.I am not a slant six guru , so all the help I can get will be appreciated.
I dont want to waste money on getting the wrong carb , and I figured the more questions I can get answered the better off I will be.

I have several 1971 to 1973 1920 Holley's, part#12R-4285B. They have the fuel bowl vent line but not the charcoal canister purge vent fittings. I prefer these carbs over the early 60's 1920's because they have the dual power valve plungers so when you need to get going they deliver! I would think they would be good on a truck.

SL6 Dan will have to give you the year and part# for the 1920's with the purge port fitting.

I do like the 70's on up 1920's. They are easy to work on and tune. Many kits are available. Dan has his favorites. I generally get a Walker or Hygrade or buy just the gaskets or parts I need from the local carb shop. It is probably the simplest carb to adjust and tune and fine tune well for a one barrel. Four screws and your there :!:

R6447, R6447A, R6448, R6448A, R6593, R6593A, R6594, R6594A, R6595, R6595A, R6596, R6596A,
I figure if I get to go to the junkyard it would be helpful to know the correct number I need for my application.

My 1968-72, R7585A 1920 Economaster has all the fittings for the canister. It is also stamped 12R-7610.

I've been searching online for a site that has the numbers and pics of the different 1920s, maybe it would help some , but no luck,
I will look for your carb number and see if I can find some pics

Did you print out SL6 Dan's pdf file on rebuilding the 1920? The top picture is what your looking for.

We just need SL6Dan to supply that list of numbers he has stashed. :D

Ok , I think I ran up on that while I was searching on this site.
I will bookmark that , and If I can figure out the magic words ,maybe sl6 Dan will grace me with some needed knowledge.

Well I went to 5 junkyards today with no luck , the closest I found was a 1975,6 dart , but I think it was a 1945.
I did find a 2bbl carter ,but it was outside and had been rained on .
The guy at the yard said he got $35 for carbs and $30 for the manifolds.
I was thinking on getting the 2bbl manifold ,but I doubt that carb is any good.
I really dont want to get the manifold if I cant find anything to put on it .
I cant believe that there are no sl6s around here really, only one place had a couple.
I am going to call a couple more places but it seems hopeless .If anybody have any ideas on were I can get a carb at (i know ebay) I would appreciate it.
