I had my transmission put back in a few days ago by a reputable transmission chain. It was at their shop for many months while the body and painting was being done. They lost my transmission cooler lines and had to fabricate new ones. I'm not really happy with the look of the new lines. I towed the car home after they finished (no gas tank at that time), put in the tank and the starter. Something isn't right. Where is my throttle rod? They didn't put it back in. They don't have it. The car is a 74 Dart Sport. It has an a slant engine from a 73 Dart with a Holley 1920. (The original engine with the 1945 is currently out of the car.) I don't remember if the throttle rod was the original rod with the 1945 or did I use the rod from the 73 parts car when I swapped engines. Does anybody know which throttle rod I'm going to need to finish the rebuild (73 rod or 74 rod). I believe the two were different. I know a lot of people on this site do Super 6 conversions. If anybody has their original throttle rod for sale, I need one. |

The linkage for 73, and 74-1976 (and even 76-1980) 1 barrel is pretty much the same... -D.Idiot |

I can't think of any "reputable transmission chains". I certainly hope it wasn't Scaamco you used, or lost lines and rods are likely to be the least of your problems. The kickdown rod they will be buying for you (since they lost it for you) comes from any 1969-up 1bbl slant-6/automatic installation. |

Dan, good to hear from you. In September 2006 the transmission place was Cottman. They pulled the transmission and I took the car to the body shop without the transmission. The body shop finally returned the car to me in June 2007. One Sunday afternoon in September 2007, image my horror as I drove past Cottman and the name on the sign was Aamco. Did they sell out? Where is my transmission? Monday morning I was there when they opened. Same owners, different name. Aamco bought out Cottman and changed the name. I explained what I was doing to the car (rebuilding the engine, new brakes, changing upper and lower ball joints, pittman arm, inner and outer tie rods, new gas tank, etc.) and would get the car to them when I finished my work. They still had my transmission. No hurry. I paid them in September 2006 to replace the torque converter and overhaul the original 1974 transmission. My son and I finally took the car to them in March 2008. My son watched them reinstall the transmission at my urging, yet he did not know what to look for while they were working. One night after rolling in from work at 10:30 p.m., I decided to install the starter. Where is my throttle rod? Now you know the story. Do they owe me a replacement rod? Come April 15th, I will be crazy and pay them a visit the next day. I guess I should be grateful they didn't sell my transmission they held for over one year, but in my mind they owed me, the customer, a degree of care for my car parts that obviously they didn't provide. I will be posting a WANTED AD for a throttle rod on this board. Anybody have one for sale? |
