Post subject:  Huge gap between hood and fender.

As the title says, I have a huge gap between my drivers side fender and my hood on my 63 Dart.

The passenger side is lined up perfectly, but I can't seem to get this side good.

It's so wide, I can fit a finger into it.

There are no spacers in the fender, so I can't see any way to move it in closer.

Am I stuck with it like this? Or is there a way to adjust it?

Also, the hood is higher on that side. I adjusted the latch up as high as it will go, but I can't get the hood any lower. As I said before, the passenger side is perfect.

Cyber bodywork... hard to do but we'll try.

From the picture it looks like the hood would hit the headlamp ring if you were to just slide the fender over or is that an illusion?

How does the gap between the fender and door look? If it is tight on the bottom I would try shimming the front of the fender so you can at least get the hood and fender even height-wise.

Is the back of the hood even with the cowl? This is the primary guide for alignment. Doors and fenders can be moved, a cowl is pretty much stuck where it is on a A-body.

Could you post a few more pics of the other gaps? Then I can get a better idea of where you need to add shims. I have tore down dozens of Mopars and 99% of them over used shims so don't worry about adding shims.

haha: cyber bodywork; well said

ever closed the hood with some tools on the fender by accident?
perhaps the previous owner?

I would normally hesitate to suggest that you start bending on your sheet metal, but it seems that this corner of the hood is twisted counter-clockwise a bit...

have access to another hood by chance? just for comparison's sake?

I was checking it out today, and the inside of the fender (where it bolts to the fenderwells, is bent, so although the bolts are tight, the front edge of the fender is out about 1/4 inch. Other than that, everything is lined up good.

Also, the car had been in a minor wreck before, so that's probably a major part of it.
