I was just reading the "how much for r-12" post and I saw the bit about 134 being on the way out too.

Sonofamonkey!!! I'm doing a 134 upgrade to my driver car. Will I just be upgrading again in 2 or 3 yrs?

That really blows :roll: Stupid green house gasses............

What these econazis need to do is give us something that actually is a perfect replacement for R12 (molecules of identical size) that can be used as a refrigerant instead of paying out our tail ends for R12 and dealing with the decreased efficiency of R134a.

The decreased efficiency of R134a is not a practical problem in the real world, and there will be R134a readily available for a very long time to come.

That is almost word for word what they said about R-12
And they were right. It's still available to service the relatively few cars that still need it. So your complaint is...?

Sorry Dan. It wasn’t a complaint against anything you said - your quote was just handy and a reminder of my distaste of the system.

Through all of this, the R-12 will still be here and the R-134 will still be here. You’re right, it will be no problem buying it.

It will cost 20 times more but it will be available. Whether it’s in an air conditioning system or a warehouse or if they sell it in India or China, it’s ultimate destination is the atmosphere. The real crime, if there is one, is the manufacturing of it in the first place, but we will pay for it. It doesn't matter if we decide to not pay for it - it's already been manufactured.

Now they are admitting that the R-134 that replaced R-12 is just as bad - so why did we go through all of that in the first place? It doesn't make any sense except from a profit stand point.

What the problem with 134A. I thought it had no ozone depletion potential?
