ok, was trying to check the gear ratio in my new 61 lancer. jacked it up and did the spin the wheel thing. was either 3.23 or 3.55 non sg, which i think are the two choices my car came with. strange thing is driveshaft could be held and wheels still spun and visa-versa. is this rear shot? i do have a dana sg and 4:10's for it if it needs rebuilt..................steve

If the driveshaft is stationary the wheels will have to turn in opposite directions unless something is broken. If you pull the cover off the rear axle you can see how it works and also find the gear ratio stamped on the ring gear.

To do the "jack it up and spin the wheel" thing, you only jack up ONE wheel, the other MUST be on the ground. If you can hold the driveshaft still with one wheel up, and one wheel on the ground, the rear should be broken to the point it wont pull the car without really bad noises.
