Post subject:  Harmonic Balancer Differences

The balancer that I have for the new engine is a six spoke design. The one that was on my stocker is three "spokes."
The old one is in poor shape, so I won't be using it. Is the six spoke unit correct for the 225 forged crank?

The balancer goes on till the crank is about 2/3rds of the way into the balancer bore. It appears to be roughly the same depth as my old balancer installed onto the crank on the old engine. Seems a little odd, but OK. It's been a while since I installed one, just want to make sure everything is right.

Thanks!

Post subject:  Lol...

The six spoke design is for the 1976+ Cast Crank engine, the 3 spoke design is for the forged crank engine... either will fit and interchange on the crank snout it's just that the 6 spoke guy is a little heavier than the 3 spoke version (to help dampen that dietary cast crankshaft...)...

Scrub that crank nose up with some 3-400 grit and try it again...(or you could hit the crank snout with a CO2 Fire Extinguisher/blast from an Argon tank)... you guys are using a longer crank bolt and some spacers to swedge the damper on right?

I'm using a damper installation tool.

So the six spoke is incorrect for the application. Hmmm. It doesn't seem any heavier. Ounces? :?

I have it mounted. Fopar thinks it will be fine.

Well, back to the BBQ! Nice weather we have here! :D

No it's incorrect if you are critically worried about have an all OEM forged crank slant look correct... lots of people on hear have used them on their forged crank drag slant (I think even Slantzilla...)

Like terry said you could even use a 440 damper if needed.
