ok guys, trying to determine what cfm my 4bl carter cvs is? it is on my "new" 61 lancer (offy manifold). is there a way to identify cfm via numbers on the carb? my best guess is 500cfm.........................steve |

How about a picture or a Stock number from the bottom tab or corner of the carb. Frank |

Carter 4934S is an AVS rather than an AFB and is for a 1970 340 with an automatic transmission, without EEC or Air Conditioning. I'd say it's about 600-650 CFM. |

The AVS should be able to work just fine with the vaccuum secondaries, but I'd bet you'd get better signal and metering from the 390 (if you're trying to strike a bargain between 'power' and 'mileage'... -D.Idiot |

D.I. , wouldnt i need an adapter plate for the holley, plus, i have the original bell crank gas pedal setup. i assume i would need the newer style gas pedal along w/lokar kickdown cable??? or has anyone adapted the 390 to the bell crank like my carter ?????????????????? |

Carter AVS and Holley used the same bolt pattern. It's the AFB that's a bit smaller. All three use the same the Offy adapter plate. A newer cable throttle with Lokar or Bouchillon cable KD would be way less work that adapting the rod throttle and bell crank KD. Another KD option with a newer cable throttle, use OEM 1bbl KD linkage the Offy KD linkage adapter. |

thnx cecil, i think ill just stick w/the carter, although the accelerator pump is shot. im hoping to find a rebuild kit for it(avs). if not, ill buy an edlebrock 500 cfm performer, as it is a direct bolt in replacement(throttle linkage,etc)....I HOPE !! .......................ss |
