Hi all,

The axle bearings stick out of my axle a small amount ( approx 1/8th of an inch). I measured the inside depth of the axle, and it appears to be made to do this.
Two questions:

1. How much do your axle bearings stick out?

2. is this normal?

It seems like bad engineering to me.

Greg

Greg,

If you have a disc kit and eliminated the drum backing plates, they will stick out, yes. I took my old backing plates and cut the centers out to use as spacers, reused the steel shim orig gaskets, and some permatex. I would not leave them open like that, but they are a sealed bearing so maybe it's OK.

Lou

Thanks Lou.

I used some crummy chinese bearings, and they stuck WAAYYY out there. I took them back to the machine shop, they charged me an arm and a leg for FM bearings ( and total redo on labor), and they seem to be better now.

I am not going back to them for the engine work on my new engine. They gave me a bunch of crap for not getting the bearings from them the first time.
