Post subject:  Rough Idle / Bad timing?

Hi all,
I just regestered and I have a question.

I recently rebuilt my carb and when I put it back on it ran fine for about 10 mins, then all of the sudden it started running very rough and sounds like its missing.
My buddy and I have been working on it tring to figure out what happened to make it run so rough.
First we RE-rebuilt the carb, then we put a new cap and rotor on it and at the same time checked all the plugs for gap, carbon, fouling, and checked the plug wires for resistance and continuiety.
Next we tried a new ballast resistor and electric timing unit.

Most recently we decided to try a new distributor we got it in with out any problems it starts ok now but still idles rough.

We tried taking the plug wires off one at a time to see if we had a missing cylinder it smoothed out when we pulled the # 4 plug wire but also lost about 1/4 the RPMs
With everything we have tried we have seen little diference in the way it runs.
As of now we are stumped as to what the problem might be.
Any sugesstions would be appriciated.
Thank you
Shwan & David

Check the valve lash.

Check to make sure all your vacuum stuff is hooked up right.

I agree, sounds like a vacuum leak. Get the spray out.

What carb are you working with? ( my guess... is it a Holley 1920??)
