I have two 68 Darts. One two-door sedan and one two-door hard top GT. Both with 6s of course. I would really like to know your reciepe for the auto overdrive conversion. Like what exact years 60s trucks to look in for the trans adapter, body, linkage, trans support mods, and speedo gear changes. Just in case, my Darts are the early 68s. You know, seperate neutral safety and back-up light switches. Pics would be real good, but I don't want to get greedy. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. drucker@sbcglobal.net |

They pretty much lay out my buildups on both cars. I LOVE '68 Darts - partial to 4 doors though. I haven't developed film yet, and I'm notoriously bad about pictures, but we'll see.... Look in vans or trucks pre-'68 for the adapter plate and crank/flexplate spacer. Look for '92-94 Dakotas/Rams for the A500 (also called 42RE) trans. Other years will work, but those are the best. This is a big job. Need to cut up the upper crossmember above the trans, AND completely fab a lower trans crossmember. Relocate the engine 1/2" forward or more (1/2" is easy with slotting on motor mount brackets that bolt to engine). Stock column shifter works just barely. Need oil pan with modified sump. See my post for details. I just visited a junkyard today and found that a Dodge Van speedo cable will work. The Dart (or other A, B, C, E body and trucks) speedo cables are all too short. Cheers, Lou |
