Post subject:  Driver door mirror
Where should the driver door mirror be mounted?
The PO told me some one ripped his mirror off at one time and apparently when he had body work done they filled in the holes and painted them over. I would like to reinstall the mirror and need to know where I need to drill holes. Can anyone help me?

2-door cars get the sideview mirror ahead of the leading corner of the vent wing window.

4-door cars get the sideview mirror at the divider bar between the trailing edge of the vent wing and the leading edge of the main door glass.

I know with earlier years (mine's a 64) outside mirrors were optional.

The car shown is a '66.

Sideview mirrors (and reversing lamps) were optional equipment until 1965.

Interesting installation of a mirror on a 2-door in the 4-door location.

Dealers didn't always follow Chrysler's directions for installing sideview mirrors (and sometimes didn't even bother using Chrysler parts; see this thread).

I have one more question. What hold this thing to the door, I know it is screws but is there any reinforcement inside or does the the sheet metal give all the support?
I had to drill out the metal that held the plate that tentions the ball inside the mirror because it just flopped around. I bent the plate then drilled and added screws to make it tight again, now I need to get a new mirror glass(it was gone already), screws and mount it on the door.

Just seen this post, but I was removing a mirror today myself and had a stripped srew that I could only get by inside the doorpanel. You probably could have seen where the original holes were on the underside and somehow poked them back out with a scribe, granted if, its acessible enough to reach or see.

I really dont want to try and remove the door panel if it isnt an absolute must. The last thing I want to do is destroy a fine piece like this if I dont have to.

Was there a passenger side mirror available to match the remote adjusting drivers mirror in '74. My car has just the driver side and I would like a passenger side mirror also.
By the way, my mirror is mounted with the leading edge of the base evan with the post for the vent window.

Yes. Starting in '66, there was a manually-adjustable RH sideview mirror that matches the LH remote unit. Both the LH remote and the RH matching mirror are available as new reproductions.
