HEY guys and girls

on saturday i re curved my eletrice dizzy by shortening down the slots to .381 in lenght his gives me a 12` static timing and 18~of mech i shotened the heavy spring a little so it starts to take affect about 30-35" for the end of the slot .. and fitted a silver msd spring out of kit number 8464. its called a bushing and spring set ..

the out come .. wow its changed my little black sheep in to one running form a new zealand farmer .. ..(lol its a out standing fact new zealands + sheep - barn yard stuff best not talked about )

on the real note it`s seems to cruse a lot easier.. and perfomance is to put it stronger mid and top end .. and a more pokier out of the hole and away from lights .... oh my vac can is set at 6 turns ccw ..and is yet to be dialed in to a final setting

yours looking for more cheap little tricks ..

the black sheep.....

Black Sheep,

At what rpm does your all the advance come in at?
It sounds like one of the springs might be too stiff.
I am running one medium red Mopar Spring and one long looped
super stiff Mopar spring. Both were out of a 400 big block distributor.
I didn't shorten the slots.
I have all 30 degrees by 2000 rpm and the full 32 at 2500.
That makes it pretty punchy down low. I am running 16 degrees
initial and 16 mechanical and 20 more out of the vacuum can at cruise.
Vacuum at idle is 18, in gear is 16.

Blacksheep,

When you say you shortened the slot length to .381, is that length the total amount of travel you have for the stud after reassembly, or the total length of the slot before you put the stud in?

Reason I ask is most sof the studs I have miked that go into the slot are in the .24xx diameter range. Once in the slot such a stud could only move .14xx outward before hitting the end of the slot.. I don't have my notes in front of me but it seems a lot of my slots ended up being in the .98xx length before reassembly, and that gave me a 9.1 to 9.3 R slot, using Cecil's method of calculation.. I haven't used the MSD spring set, but this weekend a friend shared some heavy springs from a small block Mopar, and one of them is MUCH heavier than any I have tried yet. To be tested this weekend..

HEY ALL

WOW A LOT OF QUESTIONS ,,

ok my vac advance can is a stock unit off a 1974 duster eletric dizzy set at 5 turns out ,, the pins on the wights are .240" and the slots are .381" long as per a 9r govoner .. on driving it in to work this moring it has a little ping at 50ish mph .. but i think its a lean condition due to the fact i have not rejeted the edelbrock to deal with the extra advance on the criuse the power for hill climbing is greatly improved .,. a hill where i normally kick it to second to power up it was not nessary but fun .. so over all it been a good thing just a little tunning to go ,, oh next week i am fitting zfr5n plugs to see if that will clean it up more ..

yours side ways .. the black sheep

the farmer still can`t catch me !!!!

My govenor is a 15 R, long slots and and the can is a VC208 11R can which provides the second stage if you will another 20 degrees of timing on top of the 32 degrees at 2500 rpm. I run it 4 turns out, no ping. Average vacuum at 60 mph cruise is 15" to 18".
