Ok, well I've been slowly putting together the next slant that I hope to push the envelope with now that I got some expirence under my belt. You guys have helped give me some ideas, but now I need expirence.
What is the strength of recondtioned con rods? Assuming you put arp in and shot peen/ cryo treat them. Last, balanced will they outlast or hold up to a regular set of I-beam small block rods? Has anyone sheared a rod and if so with what kinda set-up.
The questions leads up to money vs. strength, I've been contemplated getting my crank welded to accept H-beam rods v8 rods, but Shaker223 has almost stock internals so maybe I can get away with doing it cheaper / safer with stock stuff that is prepped. Don't know what will happen overall but expect a turbo motor that would make Tiley proud. Hence why I need expirence to tell me what these rods can handle. Thanks you guys.

Whats your expected HP on your motor? I have seen two slants fail due to rod issues both on #5 rod and they broke at the little end and twords the middle. They were also bone stock. I know you have looked at my thread for the K1 rods but it seems that you may not be into those. but going both ways is an option.

The Drake's are well over 500 horsepower with their turbo motor. Tom says it has stock rods in it. Mine is in the area of 370ish and I have never had a rod issue, even with 198 rods.

Stock rods are actually very good pieces compared to a lot of other engines. RPM is your enemy, not HP.

MoparDemon71- actually I remember when you started that thread cause I had just tried to find some CNC shops that could cut something like that if I had a couple interests. However, the problem with that route is I'm counting on someone else to come through with their word, and as history has taught me it's just easier to stick with something that depends on you or Summit shipping out a common piece. Who knows though if I have to put this off longer than I thought than maybe your rods will be common place.

Thanks for the start 'Zilla I was hoping to break 400hp with a t61, intercooler, my megasquirt, and a water injection. Boost is going to start with 12psi hone in, move up to 16, than 20. So the thought according to yours is where do I cut the redline, and will it still meet my goal. I thought that 6500 would be the top top limit, is this what you have done? Or lower? Also, how do you prep the rods.

My shift light is chipped at 6400. I have more gear in the car this year so we will see if they will live over 6500 in high gear on the hose. I am thinking the shift light will be on at around the 1200 foot mark. Prolly go through at 6600ish.

What would be the abuse the new H-beam rod style would take? Would it give you that much more RPM? It seems like it would be a lot of money to gain another 1000rpm, as cool as it would be to have a slant six that would spin 7000rpm. However, i don't want to give up the 50 cubes for a 170 that could spin that. Though can it be amplified with the boost where it would be enough like the nissan inline six's?

One of the Slant racers told me one time they were spinning their alky motor 7200 with stock 6.7 rods in it. Don't know if that was true or not, but the man never struck me as a story teller.

With a 4.125" stroke and a 3.4" bore RPM is not our main objective anyway. Use the torque the arm gives us.

You wanna turn over 7K and make power, build a small block Chevy.

I joked about that with my roomates. I told them I like the slant six and if all I wanted to do was go fact there would be a 350 in there in no time at all. Sounds like a plan with the stock rods. I believe that 6200rpm should be enough for most engines, so the plan is 3000 should kick in full boost so I can carry the power into the rpms.
The whole torque thing is always something to remember with these engines, but you still got to be able to spin the engine enough to produce horsepower. Even the diesel guys will arque that.
